Important Update about Baseball & Softball

Dear HTV Families,

We hope our families are coping with the challenges that we all are facing these days. Thank you all for the patience you have exhibited and the support you have expressed for HTV Little League. As a volunteer, community, non-profit organization, the support of our community is important to us and greatly appreciated.

Over the past few months, the HTV board has continued to meet and discuss where we stand regarding playing baseball and softball this year. Long Island has started the process of reopening and organized sports activities are scheduled to be permitted later on as the process moves along. While there is uncertainty in the timeline, at this point over halfway through the usual spring season it is clear that baseball and softball will not happen this spring. However, that does not mean that there will not be baseball or softball at HTV this year.

While we are not having a spring season, we still are planning on playing this year. Based on all we know right now, we are targeting the end of July to the beginning of August for the start of a summer-fall season. The season would run through our usual fall ending time, the beginning of November, a length similar to the spring season. The final dates will be set based on the guidance and stipulations we receive from state and local governments and health authorities.

We hope that this plan will meet the needs of HTV families, and provide a chance for our many players to participate in a full baseball or softball season in 2020, as well as help make planning by our families and HTV Little League easier. We do understand that this timing may not work for everyone. We have come up with several options that we hope will fit everyone’s needs.

1) Remain registered.
Those that want to play when the season starts can remain registered. Registrations will not change and we will revise the season dates as we finalize them. We will continue to keep everyone updated and informed as we move towards the summer-fall season.

2) Convert your registration to credit.
If you are unable to play later this year or are not sure, you can have the full registration fee put in your account as a credit. You can use this credit in any future season, for any family member, and it will remain in your account until you use all of it. This option will help the league cover 2020 expenses already incurred.

3) Convert your registration to a tax-deductible donation.
HTV Little League is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, and any deductions you make are tax-deductible as allowed by law. The inability to have a spring season will have a financial impact on the league, so donations are greatly appreciated. HTV will send a donation acknowledgment letter to all families who donate their registration fee.

4) Request a refund.
If you are not planning to play this year, you may request a refund. HTV will refund the full registration fee paid. While there is some financial cost to HTV, we believe is it important to support our families who may be in a difficult place financially because of the pandemic. You may also request a partial refund.

Please take some time to think about which option works best for your family. Please contact us if you have any questions, at [email protected]When you have decided, click on this link: HTV Response Form and use the form to indicate your preference.

Anyone that we do not get a response from will have their registration maintained and everyone will be kept updated as we move ahead. We will be able to honor your option choice at any time up until June 30th.

As always, our number one priority is the safety and well-being of all the members of the HTV Little League family. We will continue to follow the guidelines of local and state health authorities, and the recommendations of Little League International. We are continually receiving updates and will base our decisions on this information. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

Thanks for your continued support, and we are all looking forward to when we are able to be back out on the fields.
