HUNTINGTON TRI-VILLAGE LITTLE LEAGUE, INC
Parent Code of Conduct Policy
Little League believes in the power of youth baseball and softball to teach life lessons that build stronger individuals and communities.
Huntington Tri-Village Little League aspires to be an outstanding educational athletic organization that provides a high-quality experience and has implemented a Parent Code of Conduct, aligned to its mission, for the important message it holds about the proper role of parents in supporting children in sports.
Parents should read, understand, and agree to these principles prior to their children participating in our league each season. Any parent guilty of improper conduct at any game or practice will be asked to leave the sports facility and be suspended from the following game. Repeat violations may cause a multiple game suspension or the season forfeiture of the privilege of attending all games.
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and these pillars of character. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these:
• Trustworthiness • Fairness • Respect
• Caring • Responsibility • Good citizenship
We are requesting that all parents adhere to the following 15 principles throughout the season:
1. We will not force our child to participate. We will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for our children, not for us as adults.
2. We will learn the rules of the game and the policies of Huntington Tri-Village Little League.
3. We will inform our coach of any physical disabilities or ailments that may impact the safety of my child or others.
4. We (and our guests) will be a positive role model for our child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and demonstrate positive support for all players, coaches, officials, Board members, concession stand workers, and spectators at every game, practice, and event.
5. We (and our guests) will not engage in any unsportsmanlike conduct with officials, coaches, players, or parents such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.
6. We will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the players.
7. We will teach our child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
8. We will demand that our child treat other players, coaches, officials, Board members, concession stand workers, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
9. We will teach our child that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.
10. We will praise our child and other children for competing fairly and trying hard. We will never ridicule or yell at our child or others for making a mistake or losing a game.
11. We will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit our child over winning, and we will deemphasize competition and winning in the lower age groups.
12. We will promote the emotional and physical well-being of players ahead of personal desire we may have for our child to win.
13. We will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront officials or coaches at the field. If needed, we will speak to them later at an agreed place and time.
14. We will refrain from coaching our child or others during games and practices, unless we are a coach of the team.
15. We will demand an environment for our child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and we will refrain from their use at all events.
